We’re not even halfway through the summer and already three major celeb couples have announced their sad uncouplings: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, and Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. At a time when most summer flings are just starting to sizzle, these long-term couples are facing a new reality and a new dynamic. It got me thinking about other celebrity couples from the past that will always have a special place in my heart. Here are a few of my favorites:
Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian
The Bush and The Tush are hands-down one of my favorite pairings of all time. They were both stunning on their own, but together, the hotness meter just went off the charts. I mean, really, could two humans look any more perfect than these two?! During their time together, anytime Kim spoke about Reggie on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she had such a sparkle in her eye. It was obvious that they were enamored of each other. They truly seemed a match made in heaven. I still firmly believe that Reggie is the one who got away (sorry, Kanye!) and am sad that we will never know what could have been. Though both have moved on with other partners, both marrying and having children (she famously wed basketball player Kris Humphries for 72 days, then rebounded with rapper Kanye West. The two have since welcomed baby North West, gotten married, and are expecting a new baby boy later this year. Reggie has also had a baby, Briseis Avagyan Bush, and married Armenian dance teacher Lilit Avagyan), I fondly remember the good old days of this gorge twosome.
Courteney Cox and David Arquette
I have been a longtime fan of this duo since the ’90s (they met on the set of Scream which is my all-time favorite horror franchise) and their on-screen and off-screen love seemed flawless. They co-starred in four Scream films and supported each others’ endeavors, co-owning a production company and executive producing a show together. They seemed to be the perfect complement to each other: she gorgeous and goofy and he adorable and quirky. Sadly, after over 11 years of marriage and one daughter together, they amicably divorced. Both have moved on, she with Snow Patrol member Johnny McDaid (the two announced their engagement in 2014) and David welcomed a son, Charlie West Arquette, in 2014 with new wife Christina McLarty. But my heart will always hold near and dear Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers (I mean, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, of course!)
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Ah, to be young and beautiful and in love… I was really rooting for Miley and Liam to go the distance despite how young they were when they announced their engagement (she was only 19!) but alas, it wasn’t in the stars for this duo to have a future together. She was already world famous while his star was quickly on the rise, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. Earlier this year, it was reported the two had reconciled, but this turned out to be a case of the rumor mill churning. They seemingly still remain friendly, which gives us hope that maybe they can find each other again after Miley finishes sewing her wild oats.. she just can’t be tamed!
Britney and Justin
This is the one that hurts my heart the most. Has there EVER been a cuter couple than Britney and Justin? Together, they had it all. They were both massive pop stars, he with *N Sync at the time and she a solo superstar. I refuse to acknowledge that Britney is to blame for their breakup, reportedly having cheated on Justin with backup dancer Wade Robson (really, Brit?!). They were so cute it hurts, and I still have hope they will end up together in the end. I know, I know, he’s happily married and recently welcomed son Silas Randall Timberlake with wife Jessica Biel, but Britney is single now and I can’t help but wish the two would find each other again. They were just so sweet and goofy and charming. Sigh…
