One of the things that people who know me in ‘real’ life know is that I am a Disney fanatic, through and through. I’ve been to Walt Disney World more times than I can reasonably count, and my bucket list in life is to visit every Disney theme park in the world.
I love everything about the Disney parks. I truly feel, when I’m there, that I am in a magical world. The outside world shuts off and all the stress, anguish, and chaos of ‘real’ life disappears the second I enter those Disney gates. (Though, truthfully, that all disappears the second I land in Orlando International Airport, but I digress.)
What I love most there, above all, is the atmosphere. Yes, the rides are great, the food is delicious (and calorie-free — how do they do that?! Ha!), and seeing Minnie Mouse and her pals in the flesh will always be fun — but it’s more than that to me. It’s the attention to detail that the Disney team pay to each and every nook and cranny. It’s the smells as you walk down Main Street USA, it’s the way the cast members give you a huge smile, it’s the music as you pass through each themed ‘land’ that lets you know you’re there.
A lot of it is, of course, the nostalgia factor. I was lucky to be able to go many times as a child with my parents, and it always brings back happy memories for me to be there. Those memories are what carry me through my days in the ‘real’ world. I’ve also turned my husband onto my love of Disney, and we’ve been lucky to go a handful of times together, most recently on our Disneymoon. I’ll be forever grateful that he was humble enough to walk around in bride and groom Mickey ears just because he knew it was my dream to do so. (Love you, BJT.)
I always look for ways to bring the Disney magic home with me, so I can always feel a piece of that happiness even when it’s months between my next planned trip. In fact, right now I’m drinking coffee out of a Disney mug with our photos on it, on a Mickey Mouse coaster! (I told you I was obsessed).
But by far, my favorite way to bring that magic home is by always playing Disney parks music. For years, I have subscribed to Live365 — an app that has several Disney-themed radio stations. It’s similar to Spotify and Pandora, but with the magic of Disney.
Some of the stations can be accessed for free on the app but I have a VIP membership which costs a little more than $70 a year. They frequently have discount codes when I go to renew, so it ends up costing less. For a Disney buff like myself, it’s a small price to pay.
The stations are fantastic — some of my favorites are Mouseworld Radio, MouseJunkies Radio, Magic Radio, Park Hopper Radio, and MouseHouse Radio. They play background music in the parks, songs from movies, songs from rides (so you can feel like you’re riding Pirates of the Caribbean anytime!), and even commercials from the resort TVs.
I listen to the stations almost every day — while I’m working, while I’m cooking, while I’m cleaning. If it didn’t eat up all my data, I would listen in my car, too!
I’m even an announcer on MouseHouse Radio, and they’ve kindly placed my announcement with The Little Mermaid music (fitting, eh?) and it makes me smile every time I hear myself “on the radio.”
I’ve even been known to start crying upon hearing certain songs — I can’t help it, to me it’s magical. But this is a girl who walked down the aisle to “When You Wish Upon a Star,” so what do you expect?!
I highly recommend getting a Live365 membership if you’re looking for a way to bring some pixie dust with you in your daily life. They also have plenty of other stations, so there’s something for everyone.
Have a magical day!
